We are a small, family owned and operated cannabis cultivation company in Sturgeon Lake, MN. We cultivate cannabis using aquaponics (hence our name, AquaPOTic). We are a licenced microbusiness with the MN OCM.
Aquapotic is a small, craft cannabis business with a simple goal: grow cannabis responsibly while minimizing our impact on the environment. While we strive to succeed, we prioritize principles over profits. Environmental stewardship is at the core of everything we do, to benefit our local community, our lovely home state of Minnesota, and the world as a whole.
With our tree-hugging principles in mind, we chose to grow using aquaponics rather than soil or hydroponic methods. It's not the easiest, but it's the cleanest and most responsible way we know how.
We are currently a two-man operation (three, if you count Flipper the dog). We're co-owners, husbands, cat and dog dads, nature lovers, and full-time nerds. Together we run every aspect of our business, from caring for the fish to trimming the plants.

Aaron's journey took him from Minnesota to the Netherlands for his senior year of high school. While there, he celebrated Carnaval - a week-long celebration full of music and tradition - where he met Siebe via a friend of a friend. When Aaron returned home in summer of 2018, he left the Netherlands having graduated high school, learned a new language, and scored an adorable long distance boyfriend.
Siebe and Aaron spent the next 5 years on opposite sides of the Atlantic. While Siebe pursued a degree in the Netherlands, Aaron attended college in Vermont for a few semesters before returning home to MN just before the pandemic in 2020. He spent the next few years working as a mail carrier, building a home for himself and his future husband, and waiting for the US government to allow said future husband into the country. Siebe graduated college with a degree in teaching physical education, and after immigration paperwork finally went through, Siebe joined Aaron in Minnesota where they were able to finally enjoy life together. They married shortly afterwards and are still loving sharing a time zone.
Though an ocean apart, Aaron and Siebe had very similar upbringings. Both come from loving families that value traveling, education, and the outdoors. Siebe spent his childhood fascinated by flora, fauna, and fish tanks. Aaron was more on the tinkering side of things; building a treehouse, taking apart his RC toys, playing with electricity, etc. He was also passionate about environmental issues, starting a ‘Green Team’ in high school, learning about recycling and composting, and figuring out how to install solar panels.
Aaron, having a great passion for sustainability, tinkering, and weed, and Siebe, having a great passion for fish and plant care, following rules, and supporting Aaron, led the couple to a niche yet logical outcome: aquaponically cultivated cannabis.
Aaron and Siebe now live in their little corner of the woods in Northern Minnesota in their self-built tiny home, with their self-built business just steps away.
